I think you are reading too much into the announcement. The  virtual signaling was primarily meant for local consumption (see, we are doing something) and to send a signal to the Netanyahu government (we are very upset about what's going on and some of our voters are also very upset and concerned about what's happening in Gaza).

I can tell you even the Pro-Palestinian supporters in those countries arent particularly thrilled about the announcement, the protests will not stop, the Sumud floatilla is not going to turn around, reason being NOTHING CHANGES on the ground, the war continues, etc... most ordinary Pro-Palestinian supporters are pushing for sanctions (BDS movement), not specifically recognition of the State of Palestine. And of course they are also pushing for REAL tangible change, immediate effects like Ceasefire now, allow unrestricted humanitarian aid etc...

Nothing much has changed.  Most of those countries were insistent, at least formally with respect to the UN that Palestine exists and Israel is occupying Palestinian territory which consists of all territory conquered in 1967.  They believed that Palestine was a state being occupied before the declaration, they believe it after.  The believed the PA was the legitimate government of Palestine before, they believe the PA is the legitimate government of Palestine after.  They engaged in diplomacy (though not what formally counts as international diplomacy under International Law) before and likely won't actually upgrade status after.

I think this is mostly being done to appease domestic constituancies that want some sort of strong action.  These countries don't want to actually take strong action so instead go for something symbolic that will sell.  Israelis should be happy that this is a sign the countries doing the recognizing are very reluctant to actually change policy with respect to Israel at this point.

Palestine could have declared independence on their currently held land at any time. They didn’t because they know it will reduce (or erase) their ability to demand Israel cede them land, and other concessions.

Western nations “recognizing” Palestine now, will cement their currently held borders.

Israel was previously willing to trade land and other concessions in exchange for Palestine’s assurance of peace, and an end to Palestinian demands to be allowed to live within Israel’s borders.

If Palestine is forced to recognize its own statehood, then Palestinians can no longer claim to be permanent refugees. Most importantly, as citizens of their own country, they would have no standing to demand residency in Israel.

As a sovereign nation, they also lose their excuse for attacking Israel. A sovereign nation that bombs a neighboring country can not claim to be “resistance fighters”.  Continued attacks on Israel would no longer be as easy for other countries to condone and ignore.

This is somewhat baffling especially from first world countries as they could actually take meaningful actions to help bring peace the the region. They instead want to placate those supporting each side with platitudes and half measures because they fear the result of one side losing.  

They fear the power and influence Israel and the Jewish population projects as they don't want to lose out on the sizable investment possibilities that Jewish executives and philanthropist can pull. They do not want to lose out on the technological research and intelligence that Israel can provide.

They fear the powerful influence that Gulf Coast States and Muslim countries can provide in terms of oil, investments, and more. They also fear the consequences of the masses, their Muslim populations, and loss of political support if they support Israel for any reason or in any way. That loss is enough to cause losses of elections, terror attacks, and more. 

Everybody is so polarized that leadership is just trying to hover in the middle instead of make real change one way or the other.

This is probably reflected in Europe's immigration policy. The birthrate per woman in Europe is less than replacement rate. Therefore they have a lot of room for immigration, which a lot of it comes from the Middle East.

The problem is after WW2 most of Europe acknowledged that anti-Semitism was wrong, and had done a lot to defeat it. That sentiment never took place in the Middle East. So when people from the Middle East immigrate to Europe they're imported the anti-Semitism from the Middle East.

Edit: I forgot to answer the question. This does not signal that we're closer to a Palestinian state. It just means the sentiments to pressure Israel from the Middle East have made their way to Europe, and will probably continue to grow unless Europe takes steps to deradicalize their population, which is unlikely.

There are 151 countries that recognise Palestine, and 164 that recognise Israel. It doesn't make a huge difference either way, but it is a nice symbolic diplomatic gesture. 

Also, certain Israelis only caring about the opinion of "first-world" countries and discounting the rest of the world is part of the problem Israel has. It's perceived as an arrogant country by many in the region, and this kind of attitude doesn't help.

Something that I think *will* be a consequence will be the changing of internationally accepted thresholds for statehood to fit Palestine. We’ve seen it over and over, how rules and definitions have been changed to suit the needs of the Palestinians, most notably definitions of genocide. You need to understand that the recognition has much less to do with what's happening in Gaza, and much more with what's happening in the west bank. The Israeli government is pushing moves to kill the two-state solution, and the world does not want that to happen. The recognition is a symbol of that opposition. As an Israeli I'm probably in the minority, but this is good, Israelis do not want the two state solution to die because then we will be an isolated apartheid state. So, to your questions, it will not affect IDF's operations in Gaza at all. There is going to be backlash all across the country (like there has already been), but most people still absolutely do not want to resettle Gaza. 

The recognition is purely symbolic and aims to make it clear that the world wants a two-state solution. Yet whether or not that solution will come into fruition is solely dependent on Israel and Palestinians. No one else will be able to agree on the borders, the governing powers, the security arrangements, and so on and so forth. The world cannot force Israel to a two-state solution unilaterally, and as long as Israel doesn't escalate in the west bank, they will not be pressured into a two-state solution that they would see as a compromise to their security.

Imagine if only these countries would recognize Palestine pending Hamas dismemberment release of all hostages and Palestinian recognition of Israel how'd that would shatter hamas's efforts and prop up the PLO in Palestinian eyes did have a choice between endless war or peace. A major consequence imo is that France and the UK will expose themselves to more humiliation and render any future offers of statehood recognition for any other people worthless, because it simply won't have any effect here. this will not affect the IDF's operations in any way. Smotrich and Ben Gvir want to recognize more outposts as settlements in response to it to deter future states from doing so but none of that affects Gaza or the current war.

EDIT: Maybe it would make it easier for Palestinians who want to leave Gaza for those specific countries to do so and if enough Gazans do that in large enough numbers that would have an impact on the war but Spain, Ireland, and somewhere else in Europe all did this last year and nothing on the ground in Gaza changed

Regarding the war - won't change anything. The only country we truly need regarding the war is the US.

Regarding retaliation, here's a small breakdown:

High probability:

* Calling back the ambassadors from said countries - I would be very surprised if it *doesn't* happen, since it's usually the first thing a country does when there's a significant diplomatic issue.
* Minimizing contact - Basically no cancelling and rejecting any high level meetings, and only allowing contact by relatively low level bureaucrats. This also means outright refusal to even consider anyone from said countries trying to mediate in negotiations (at least this much is pretty much guaranteed).
* Closing down the French consulate in East Jerusalem - As it serves mostly Palestinians (as well as the few French citizens living in Jerusalem), this will be a way create a de-facto opposite outcome to what Macron's aims were.
* Settlers taking matters into their own hands  - Unfortunately this is a likely scenarios. How swiftly the police will deal with them remains to be seen.

Mid probability:

* Deporting ambassadors - This basically means downgrading the diplomatic relations. It would probably not happen immediately but might be reserved for a "second wave" if one or more of those countries retaliate to the initial retaliation.
* Sanctions on the PA - It is possible that the retaliation would be not just directly against those countries that recognized "Palestine" but also against the Palestinians, who pushed them to that.
* Symbolic annexation - Probably a small area so on one hand the threats don't end up being completely empty and on the other hand won't lead to a huge crisis.

Low probability:

* Sanctions on the recognizing countries - Will harm us a lot more than they harm them. Would probably only be considered as reciprocal measure if they impose sanctions on us later on.
* Complete annexation - Probably because Trump would not allow that, and because it would lead to the collapse of the Abraham Accords. Normally I'd say this is impossible but since Bibi's government is completely dependent on Smotrich and Ben-Gvir, and with the looming elections, there's no way of knowing for certain what Bibi would do if they threaten to leave.
